Booky Joint is committed to serving the community of Mammoth Lakes by having the best books available while providing the best service possible.
Established in 1975, Booky Joint started off on Main Street as the side business of another store before it was purchased by Gary Lewis and managed by his son, Marty. Shortly afterwards, it moved to it’s present location in the Minaret Village Shopping Center next to the Minaret Cinemas. Building on the success of the book store, Gary expanded into the neighboring space and created Booky Joint Video.
In 2001, Gary sold the store to retire, but the business began to suffer. Near the end of March in 2006, the new owner closed the doors on Booky Joint, Mammoth Lakes’ only book store.
Erick Sugimura, an employee of the store since 1998, brought up the idea of re-opening the business to his best friend, Dave Leonard. After a little research, they set plans in motion and were able to open the doors of a newly remodeled Booky Joint on July 1st, 2006. |
