Heather's Must-Haves

The greatest Booky Joint employee in the history of The Booky Joint, Heather left us for a life of adventure in Panama, much to our collective dismay. Amazingly enough, as she's no longer on the payroll, she continues to outsell the rest of the staff combined in spite of complicated international sales laws and fluctuating currency exchanges. You can also catch up with Heather on their blog: http://panamaniacs.wordpress.com/

"In the world according to Garp, we are all terminal cases." This masterpiece by John Irving is compelling, engrossing, and full of tragic consequences that mold people into who they are. This novel follows the life of a man unfortunately named Garp. Garp is arrogant, emotional, and completely unable to withhold his personal experiences from the novels he wrote throughout his life.

I really loved this book. It was an easy read, but a captivating one. Sarah is a young French girl living in Paris with her family in 1942. In July the French police were commanded to "round up" the Jewish families living in Paris and keep them together in small  encampments. Sixty years later, an American journalist is asked to write a piece of the sixtieth anniversary of this unfortunate event. Her research leads her to revive the past, and hopefully heal old wounds.

Set in 1850 during California's Gold Rush, a time when men sold their souls for gold and women sold their bodies for a place to lay their heads. Michael Hosea lived an honest life alone on his farm when he heard God's call to marry Angel and rescue her from a life of prostitution. Angel's entire life until that point had been filled with the betrayal of powerful men who had used her and left her broken. This is a powerful characterization from the book of Hosea in the Bible and will change your life.
