What are Google eBooks?
Google eBooks are part of an open platform that allows someone to explore, buy, and read books on mutifunction digital devices, including desktop computers, laptops, iPads, iPhones and other smart phones, as well as other devices with web browsers. Google eBooks can also be read on most single-function dedicated e-readers that run Adobe Content Server 4's ePub DRM, including the Nook and Sony Portable Readers. How are Google eBooks different from other e-books?
Google eBooks are stored on a Google server, and you have access to the eBook from that server, or “cloud.” Google eBooks can be viewed and read using any Web browser, by using Adobe Digital Editions, by using a Google app for multi-function devices, or by using most dedicated e-book devices (full list of Adobe-compatible devices can be found at http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/devices/.)
Can I read Google eBooks on my iPhone?

I love traditional printed books, but I am curious about e-books. What are the benefits?

What are some of the ways to read Google eBooks?
Google eBooks can be read on your laptop or desktop computer. They can also be read on dedicated, single-function readers, like the Sony Reader, or on multifunction devices, such as the iPad, iPhone, Android, and other mobile devices and smart phones.
Can I read Google eBooks on airplanes and other places without an internet connection?
Yes! Google eBooks can be read and downloaded to both your laptop or desktop computer. They can also be downloaded to other portable, dedicated, single-function readers, like the Sony Reader, or on multifunction devices, such as the iPad, iPhone, Android, and other mobile devices and smart phones. If you don't already have it, you will need to download Adobe Digital Editions if you wish to download and read eBooks on a desktop or laptop computer, or another device not utilizing the web browser or without a Google eBooks app. Download Adobe Digital Editions for free at this link.
Conversely, you may download the Google eBooks app for available devices and read your purchased Google eBooks through the app without an internet connection. TIP: Just be sure to download your eBooks or the app for the first time before you are without an internet connnection. Once downloaded, the eBooks or any Google eBooks app may be opened without connecting to the internet.
Can I download Google eBooks to multiple devices?
Yes! Google eBooks can be downloaded to multiple devices, up to six devices. Conversely, you may read any purchased Google eBook in any web browser on any device for an unlimited number of devices, but Google may ask you to close the eBook on one or more devices if you have too many open at once.
Why doesn’t Booky Joint sell reading devices?
We’re experts in books, authors and good literature—not consumer electronics. Once you’ve decided on an e-book reader, we hope you will come back to us to purchase your e-books just like you would for your traditional printed books. Our preference is for something like the iPad, iPhone, Android, and other smart mobile devices that are multi-functional devices. For most people, this might be the smarter investment. But Google eBooks sold through BookyJoint.com can be read on almost any device except a Kindle.
Why not the Kindle?
Kindle is a proprietary device made by Amazon. Amazon Kindle is not compatible with Google eBooks. As your local, independent bookstore, we would love to be your source of e-books, so we hope you will choose a reading device with the freedom of an open format that will allow us to do that.
